Dr Ayo Akinsanya started as a University lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Nigeria. Having graduated as the best Biochemistry student from the University in 1979, he returned to his alma mater and lectured for 7 years before moving to the United Kingdom for his doctorate in Leukaemia research at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1988.

He veered into Biotechnology as a post doctor research fellow and was the first employee of a startup biotechnology company (Tepnel Life Sciences plc) in Manchester in 1992.

With professional experience spanning over 25 years in technological innovations, he served as Principal Biochemist of a thriving plc, currently a subsidiary of the US firm Gen-Probe Inc.

Dr Akinsanya also served as the Managing Director of Alpha & Omega Bioapplications UK and retired Consultant to several UK startup biotech companies.
